On this project I really did struggle coming up with a feasible idea in a matter of weeks. I kept jumping from idea to die and noticed that most of them where way to complicated and not feasible in the time frame that we had to really develop it. I ended up on the plate idea pretty much in the last week, I wanted to do my installation really centred around the time Wellington on a Plate and how it brings food and different style out during the weeks that it is on. So that was the reason on having a plate with the shards coming together and centred around different cultures combining to create awesome tasting food, and styles.
Reflecting on my whole process since being stuck on the idea and keeping on refining it, I wish I had more time on actually testing it out, I tried attempting to test the idea out but I didn't have right resources at my disposal at the time to do, much to my dismay. I thought I had the right utensils for it but when putting into action I should've used a 'heavy' card to weigh down the string, and maybe instead of using clear string, instead use actual string to represent the wires that would hold it up in the practice run.
My insights on the project where that its really hard to come up with a feasible idea within the timeframe we had, and that maybe it is definitely a good idea to probably work within a group, so you could bounce ideas of each other more. Also I found that it was good to have any idea that would sync up with something that is what makes Wellington, I thought it was a good idea to do Wellington on Plate as first of all its a great event that gets high publicity and is promoted and planned months in advance.
I still wish that I could have done more with my project, and developed it bit more and experimented with what I did, if I had developed this idea before I did I feel I could have refined it more.

Week 3 - Wednesday
Well today i printed of the shards and cut them up then hopefully arrange them in a way to simulate how i hope they would look in the train station.
I want all the shard to be a different heights and depths to show that even though all these shards are separate they come together to create something 'beautiful' (even though it is not necessarily at the moment, If i had more time i would of source better images.)

I used the plate at the back as the backing it wouldn't be in the final imaging. I was placing all the pieces together but I must admit i used the fish line to hang them but it didnt work very well when i needed to place the shards. It took me quite a while to get the three pieces as close as possible but still it wasn't the best. I reckon if i had more weight on them it would be better.

Week 3 - Tuesday
So last night i made models of my 'food' and then painted them today. I was going to hang them up bt then i had a design flaw... I didnt actually think about putting holes in them to hang them up!
So the weird looking ones with the pink on them are meant to be lamb, and then the yellow ones is meant to be potato rosti, with cherry tomatoes and green beans. Unforteunly one of my greens beans broke so i had only 2 not 3.
So the other idea that i tested was the shards - I made a computer simulation of how over time the shards will all come together to create a multi cultural plate, and simulated how the shards would look in context.

Week 3 - Monday
So i came to class with my idea, and the thing that i found by Robert Urban. I was still stuck and kinda wanted to go away from the building thing, because i still thought it was to big and didn't know how to try it out, i was beginning to discover that the using type was not going to be quite as effective as i initially thought.
So i showed what i found to the class, and they mentioned about just doing an installation in the train station, they mentioned something about using plates in an installation since in the name of Wellington on a Plate. I still wanted to relate my project back to that since I do think its a great event that brings loads of people to Wellington each year.
So that got me thinking, after everyone presented I talked with Euan and he mentioned about making some clay models of food. I gave that a thought, and think i would give it go.
I was thinking that i could hang them up of a ceiling and have a plate behind them represent food on a plate.
OR
there was another idea that came to me of having different plates with different patterns and it all be shards. Each shard would represent a different cultures food, and style.

Week 2 - Weekend
So the weekend came i was still stuck on what exactly what to do but i came across this exhibition on bechance by Robert Urban. i really liked the way that he used perspective and that he did it in deferents ways not just using his surroundings but also adding stuff to the surroundings and using them to create a very dynamic view.

Week 2 - Wednesday
Today I met up with Euan to talk about my idea. He said that it sounds like to big an area to focus on and then to make it smaller, maybe look at doing it on featherston st and the train station.
he also mentioned looking at doing something with the buildings. He liked the teaming up with Wellington on a plate.
So I ended up walking down featherston street and the train station to get some ideas.

So I ended up walking down featherston street and the train station to get some ideas.
The image above I thought would be a good one to have the installation, the idea of making the puzzle fit together.
The idea for the puzzle would be that people would walk to and from work but only see all the pieces come together at a certain point on the walk back (where i took the picture).
ON the buildings would be a riddle of some sort related to Wellington on a plate, and then people would have to picture, enter the correct answer with the #woapriddle and go into the draw to win something relating to Wellington on a Plate.
So since I had hopefully finalized the main idea i was thinking how would i get people to recognise it. i didn't know how to get people to actually look for it. I was then thinking that maybe it should be a touch point at the train station so that I could get people who don't always necessarily stay in Wellington after work finishes.

Week 2 - Monday
Well, its been a rough night and day. Because of the earthquake and evacuating out the home due to the tsunami warning, I have had stuff all sleep. So won't be focusing on work at the moment since I am going to catch up on sleep!
